Our aim is to share mutual interests in mechanical musical instruments. Typically,
the instruments owned by many ACMMI members were made in the early 20th
century, but there are many modern examples among the membership, such as the
Disklavier and PianoDisc MIDI player systems.
Collections among our
members include Pianolas, Ampico, Duo-Art, Welte and Recordo reproducing pianos,
as well as music boxes, harmoniums, Orchestrelles, Dance Hall and Fairground
organs. Some members only own a Disklavier or similar modern instrument. Our leaflet is available here.
Modern player pianos
The Disklavier, PianoDisc and similar modern player pianos are a part of many
member's collections. It is now possible to hear MIDI files of player and reproducing
piano rolls on these instruments, and members whose interest is primarily
in the music regard modern instruments as serving an historical purpose.
Membership
We welcome members interested in any of the above instruments, or if you are interested
in the music produced by these instruments. You may have MIDI
files of piano rolls that you play on a modern MIDI piano. Perhaps you enjoy
pedalling a Pianola and are seeking more rolls.
Membership dues are
$40 per year, renewable in August. Membership includes a quarterly bulletin that
includes articles of interest, meeting details and general information. The Membership Form is here.
Meetings
There are four meetings a year and dates are published in the ACMMI Bulletin. Meetings
are generally at 3:00 pm. Venues include private homes and commercial organisations
involved in mechanical music. Meeting venues are generally within the
greater Sydney area or Blue Mountains. |
